TYPICAL CONSTRUCTION

What the material stack contains.

Read the layers in functional order; the exact construction remains grade-specific.

  1. 01Optical or recycled-content PET carrier selected by thickness and color
  2. 02Silicone, PU, acrylic, OCA or release coating matched to the interface
  3. 03Optional hardcoat, antistatic treatment, air-venting texture or decorative primer
  4. 04Release liner and removable protection layers defined by the converting sequence

HOW IT WORKS

Protection, release control and retained cover-glass functions.

01Temporary protection films shield polarizers and display surfaces during converting, shipment and assembly, then peel away at the specified step. Screen-protector laminates, anti-splinter films and decorative films retain their functional layers in the finished assembly; only their designated protection and release liners are removed.

02Release liners provide a controlled separation interface for pressure-sensitive adhesive processing. Silicone, fluorinated and silicone-free surfaces are not interchangeable: the adhesive chemistry, coating side, reference tape, dwell, peel angle and speed must be defined together.

03Optical cleanliness is a system property. Base-film quality, coating uniformity, antistatic behavior, roll direction, winding and packaging can all affect particles, impressions and downstream lamination yield.

KEY BENEFITS

Performance framed around the application.

Benefits are evaluated on the intended substrate, process and finished assembly.

01

Separates optical protection, shatter retention and release-liner functions

02

Named thickness, color and release-force choices for PCR-PET liners

03

Antistatic and low-tear-voltage options for sensitive display modules

04

Cover-glass reinforcement and decorative-film constructions in the same selection system

APPLICATION WORKFLOW

From material definition to a qualified production stack.

Qualification links the material, converting route and customer production line.

01Define the protected surface

Record glass, polarizer, optical film or module finish, roughness and cleanliness limits.

02Match adhesion and release

Select PSA and release chemistry for the dwell, heat and removal sequence.

03Convert and package

Control coating side, roll direction, particles, winding tension and cut edges.

04Verify the final state

For temporary films, inspect after removal. For retained films, qualify adhesion, optical appearance and the required protective or decorative function after aging.

VALIDATION PLAN

Evidence to collect before specification release.

Use representative substrates, process conditions and aging sequences.

  • Initial and aged peel on the exact optical surface
  • Release force with specified reference tape, dwell, angle and speed
  • Residue, stain, fogging, particle and surface-imprint inspection
  • Static generation and decay where display electronics require ESD control
  • Dimensional stability and edge behavior through converting and shipment

TECHNICAL FAQ

Questions engineers ask before a line trial.

Resolve the material role, interfaces and process window before sampling.

Can one protection film cover every display surface?+

No. Bare glass, coated glass, polarizer, matte film and optical-sheet surfaces have different surface energy and damage sensitivity. Each interface and removal step needs qualification.

Why are release values not compared as a single number?+

Release force changes with the reference adhesive, dwell, temperature, peel angle, speed and liner orientation. A useful comparison must use the same complete method.

Can ECLEAR recommend a grade from an application description alone?+

A first shortlist is possible, but a production recommendation requires the substrate, layer construction, equipment, process sequence, test method and acceptance criteria. ECLEAR normally moves from requirement definition to laboratory matching, samples, line trial and a frozen approved specification.

Are the values shown on this page guaranteed specifications?+

No. Website values and constructions are selection guidance. Guaranteed limits, test conditions, packaging and shelf life are controlled only by the latest ECLEAR-approved TDS, quality agreement and customer qualification record.

PROCESS WINDOW

Parameters to control.

Record the complete process window, not only one nominal setting.

  • Identify the protected surface, optical stack and exact removal point.
  • Match release force to the adhesive chemistry, dwell and storage history.
  • Control particles, static charge, web direction and liner-removal speed.
  • Validate optics and cosmetic quality after die cutting, lamination and aging.
SELECTION QUESTIONS

What we need to know.

These inputs allow ECLEAR to narrow the grade and validation plan.

  1. Q1Is the film a temporary protector, permanent anti-splinter layer or release liner?
  2. Q2What are the substrate, optical and surface-energy requirements?
  3. Q3Which side releases first and under what line conditions?
  4. Q4Are antistatic, PCR-content, air-venting or decorative-primer functions required?
FAILURE RISKS

What a disciplined trial should expose early.

Early failure checks reduce scale-up risk and prevent false material comparisons.

!

Using release-force data without its reference tape and test method

!

Cropping, scratching or contaminating optical surfaces during conversion

!

Static discharge or high tear voltage at liner removal

!

Treating a family placeholder as a frozen production specification
