ECLEAR Photochromic Coatings
ECLEAR photochromic coatings create a reversible, light-responsive tint on qualified lens substrates. The coated lens darkens under an activating light source, changes its visible-light transmission outdoors and returns toward its initial clear state after the activating source is removed. The coating may be applied by dip coating or spin coating, subject to the approved process.

01Photochromic molecules reversibly change optical state under an activating spectrum. The coated lens darkens while activation continues and returns toward its clear state after the source is removed.
02Darkening and fading are kinetic processes, so temperature, spectral power, irradiance, exposure time and coating thickness must be controlled whenever two samples are compared. A result obtained under one lamp cannot be transferred directly to another test condition.
03The photochromic layer is part of a stack. Its color, adhesion and lifetime depend on the substrate, hardcoat interface, cure and any protective topcoat. ECLEAR validates the complete construction rather than the photochromic sol in isolation.

Why can two laboratories report different activation speeds?+
The result changes with sample temperature, source spectrum, intensity, distance, exposure history and the definition of the endpoint. ECLEAR requires the complete method with every reported value.
Can WPC-501 be applied by both dip and spin coating?+
The public platform supports dip- and spin-coating routes, subject to the approved grade, viscosity, part geometry and production process.
Can ECLEAR recommend a grade from an application description alone?+
A first shortlist is possible, but a production recommendation requires the substrate, layer construction, equipment, process sequence, test method and acceptance criteria. ECLEAR normally moves from requirement definition to laboratory matching, samples, line trial and a frozen approved specification.
