ECLEAR Introduces Dual-Cure Hardcoating for Thermoformed Polymer Parts

ECLEAR outlines a dual-cure hardcoating process that combines thermal pre-cure and UV post-cure for selected thermoformable polycarbonate and acrylic parts.

ECLEAR’s dual-cure hardcoating process combines thermal pre-cure with UV post-cure for selected thermoformable polymer substrates. The thermal stage provides the handling stability required before forming; UV exposure completes the coating network after the part reaches its final geometry.

Representative process

  • Prepare and coat the qualified extruded polymer sheet
  • Use the approved thermal pre-cure until the coating reaches the defined handling state
  • Apply a qualified temporary protection film
  • Thermoform and trim the part within the validated window
  • Complete the approved UV post-cure and perform final inspection

Substrate grade, coating formulation, thermal profile, UV dose, forming ratio, protective film and final-performance requirements must be qualified as an integrated process for each application.
